This is a rare early “CBR” Dog Bone mtb crank, in the hard to find 171mm length. These are a match to the one’s shown in the ~1984 catalog scan on the MOMBAT Cook Brothers History page.
The main differences between these and the later Cook Bro’s RSR Dogbone arms include 1) RSR has a much more pronounced taper down from the spider side to the pedal side than the early model does 2) RSR has it’s logo laser etched in large font, spread almost from the pedal hole to tip of spider arms, where early model has a bare aluminum logo in compacted font that starts at the taper and extends just past the end of the big ring, and 3) RSR’s spider is drilled, with big holes near the taper.
These arms are built up with titanium chainring bolts, and period correct SR chainrings in 46/34/24T.
Condition
Near mint, lightly used condition! Anodizing and logos look amazing, with only very light wear. Arm ends have just a few tiny marks on them! Tapers are as square as the day they left the factory. Titanium chainring bolts look excellent. Chainrings have just a few light scratches, and minimal tooth wear. No bashed teeth. Perfect for your show bike!
